Today (22.07.2008-Tuesday), Gerakan which was defeated by DAP in Pulau Penang or Pinang Island has started to have roads name in Chinese characters. The reason being to have roads name in Chinese characters is to remind DAP to keep its word on having road signs in Chinese.
Former Penang Municipal Council Dr. Thor Teong Ghee, who is a Penang Gerakan Youth committee member said this move is vital as George Town had been listed as a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Is this vital to have road names in Chinese character?
According to DAP spk man - Koay Teng Hai DAP assemblyman for Pulau tikus said DAP is in the process of having roads name in Tamil and Jawi. Is this necessary?
Why Gerakan and DAP wants to be a racist party or government? the reason being is they have learned this behaviour of 'Be a true racist, rule as racist' was inherited from UMNO. This would be a good example how the syndrome of racism had affected other parties.
The main issue is why should we have roads name in Chinese, Tamil or In Jawi? It will be sufficient to have roads name in Bahasa Malaysia and English provided the writing is big enough to read. Why Gerakan and DAP wants to be a racist? If a particular road's name is 'Jalan Lebuh Pantai' which was initially 'Beach Street' let it be as it is.
Do not change the history of the road for example From Batu Road to Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman,Gurney Road to Jalan Semarak or Independence Road to Jalan Suasa 3(at Sungai Besi). Every road has its own history and do not change the history in the name of Malaysianation or civilisation. Do not diverged rakyats' thinking in the name of civilisation and malaysianation indeed you are being racist.

Interesting. I have considered this too. My chinese friend who reads little malay and does not know English still travel around city looking at signs without problem. I have little knowledge in
Instead, having multiple versions of the same name can be confusing.this but I believe the mind learn common names by retaining a copy of it in the mind. When a person sees the same name next time, he would recall from memory about the last time he saw that name and associate the two. It is like learning chinese characters. This has always been the way I learn new words as well. Don't we become familiar with words even before knowing it's meaning?
