MU/UM - Discrimination and racism in the name of professionalism

It is sad to say the current MU Vice Chancellor - Professor Datuk Dr.Ghauth Jasmon did not uphold his promise to Malaysian Indian society in large. What is the level of his integrity and code of ethic he is reflecting? or what is his political game?

His initial political game starts when he threat Malaysian Indian Society with shocking new that is he has the capacity to close MU Indian Study Department. His move was strongly opposed by Indian Society of Malaysia and global Indian society too. Hence he promise to the Indian society, specially to Datuk Dr. Subramaniam an amicable solution to the issue.

His amicable solution for the issue was appointing Malay - Professor Mohd Reduan Ariff as a head for Malaya University, Department of Indian Studies. Again the India society protease the move in ethical and very professional way. More than 100 NGOs send a memorandum to the VC and Ministry of Education. Again the VC gives a big hope with a big promise i.e. appointment of Mohd Reduan Ariff was a 'temporary measure' and its only for next tree months, by October 2009 the head of MU Indian Study Department will be Malaysian Indian.

As to this date - 16/01/2010, The Indian society yet to hear any encouraging statement from VC office. What happen with his promise? what happen with the assurance given by the Ministry of education?

As the VC said 'appointment of Prof. Mohd Reduan Ariff was temporary measure' where it was only for three months but Prof. Mod Reduan's contract was renewed for two times. The justification given by the VC to the Indian Society in large is he could not find a good Indian candidate to replace the 'temporary head - Prof Mohd Reduan Ariff". On the other hand the Dean of Faculty of Social Science and the VC will highlight some issues at the staff of Indian Studies and criticise them for not keeping high standard. VC and the Dean of faculty are playing they game in very intelligent manner. Their sole idea is to maintain the headship to Prof Mohd Reduan Ariff. For this he/they have to have a good reason and the reason given to the society is unavailability of a good candidate and on other hand keep the staff of Indian studies in silence. So his two faces game will be successful and silently he can remove the headship post from Malaysian Indian and 'kill' the department if possible.

This is high level of 'academic politic' gives us only two mean either we 'let them kill use by our consent' or 'commit suicide' we will do neither but resit the idea of discrimination and racism at academic institution. What is the difference between British colonisation and UMNO-BN colonisation?
